Some Snow Is On The Way

The 1st low pressure system will develop off of North Carolina tonight and quickly move offshore. Precipitation could begin as rain especially if it starts before midnight. Steadier snow will fall after midnight and end just by sunrise. Computer model shows snow overnight tonight. (Courtesy: temperatures dipping just below the freezing mark, some roadways and sideways will get slick, so use caution when traveling out Friday morning. Snow amounts will generally be around 1”-2” with highest snow totals in New Jersey along the coast in Ocean County where around 3” could accumulate. The 2nd low pressure system is a different animal altogether. There is plenty of moisture associated with this system coming out of the Gulf of Mexico which will cause major problems in Georgia and the Carolinas with significant snow and ice. For us, the biggest question has been how far north will the moisture get to our area. Models have been inconsistent for several days on whether the snow will affect us on Saturday. Latest computer models are now hinting that this storm will take a track closer to our coastline which means more snow could affect our area. Keep in mind there is a sharp cutoff with this storm. The slightest shift in track will determine whether we see no snow or several inches. Most computer models now agree that snow should at least graze the coast which could give us another shot of accumulating snow on Saturday.( Daily will keep you updated! 14th Street Pier on Friday.last_img read more

Ecuadorian Air Rally Wins Aeronautical Pentathlon

first_imgBy Dialogo July 18, 2011 The air rally that opened the Aeronautical Pentathlon competition, at Afonsos Air Base, was won by Captain Pallacios of Ecuador, a country with little tradition in the sport. He was the last athlete to take off in the Super Tucano and did the best among the eight pilots who participated in the race. In the opening event of the Aeronautical Pentathlon, every pilot receives an aerial map indicating points on a pre-determined terrain that should be flown over in accordance with a planned timetable. Aircraft and pilots are assigned by the host country and only one athlete from each team flies up. The medal ceremony will be held on Thursday, April 21. The aeronautical pentathlon is composed of one flying competition and six athletic ones: shooting, fencing, swimming, basketball, obstacle course, and orienteering.last_img read more
