LA County approves new recreation projects for Whittier area

Los Angeles County will spend more than $1 million several recreation projects in the Whittier area, including a $876,000 fishing pier at Legg Lake in the Whittier Narrows area. The Board of Supervisors Tuesday awarded a $485,000 contract for the pier to Faris Construction. The total project cost of also included plans and specifications, plan check, construction and consultant services. The board also approved money for a therapy spa for La Mirada’s new aquatic center, removal of debris in La Habra Heights Blue Line Stream and installation of interpretive panels and interactive exhibits on the Greenway Trail. “The latter three projects were included in the allocation of nearly $1.8 million in competitive grant funds to 17 cities and two county departments in Supervisor Don Knabe’s district. “I was very glad to assist in having these funds allocated to our cities,” Knabe said. “These projects are about making a reinvestment in our communities,” he said. “These improvements will not only increase the quality of life for those who reside in the cities, but also the residents of the surrounding communities that utilize these areas.”last_img read more
