Tickets to Wellington Community Theater’s Dinner at eight, Dead at nine will make a great Mother’s Day present

How about tickets to a murder mystery dinner theater! The Wellington Community Theater will be presenting “Dinner at Eight, Dead by Nine,” a comedy murder mystery by Michael Druce, on Mother’s Day weekend at the Memorial Auditorium.“It’s a murder mystery comedy, and we will interact with the audience,” said Phil Hennig, directory of the play. “They will have to figure out who the murderer was.”With a cast of 11 talented actors, “Dinner at Eight, Dead by Nine,” promises to provide entertainment for all ages.The action centers around the head table of a banquet room where guests and audience members are expecting a dinner theater show. When guest of honor, Eleanor Van Heusen, falls face first into her plate of spaghetti, the guests become murder witnesses. Luck has it that Inspector Bungler happens to be there and helps solve the whodunit. To say the least, Eleanor isn’t loved by everyone, and her family members, and even the chef, all have reasons to kill her. As each reveals their murder plans, hilarity ensues, yet each one claims innocence.Jessica Caldwell plays Ramona- the high-strung high-maintenance chef. The cast includes: Phil Hennig, as Nick, writer/director and theater manager; Michael Nelson, as Bungler, a disheveled police inspector; Jessica Caldwell, as Ramona, a high-strung, high-maintenance chef; Mary Ann Hennig, as Maggie, Eleanor’s personal secretary; Shelby Wiens, as Darby, Eleanor’s granddaughter; Alyssa Jackson, as Hadley, Desmond’s new bride; Matthew Shelley, as Desmond, Eleanor’s nephew; Lisa Vargas, as Eleanor, a wealthy grand matron of the arts; Jeff Hunt, as Dr. Rank, a veterinarian; and Patsy Taylor, as Nora, a mystery woman with a dubious past.A catered dinner will be served at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 12:30 p.m. on Sunday. The evening meal will have a choice of Spaghetti Bolognese or Chicken Alfredo, salad, bread, dessert and drinks, and will be catered by The Dore on Friday and Mike Castaneda on Saturday. Sunday’s menu includes pork loin, asparagus, seasoned potatoes, spring salad, dessert and drinks, catered by Linda Metzen.Anna Deckert and Shelby Wiens are also performers in the play.Tickets are $25 each or $40 per couple, and can be purchased at the Chamber of Commerce office, from any cast member, or by calling Phil and Mary Ann Hennig at 620-326-9933. Children’s tickets are $10 each. A booth will be set up outside of Dillons on Saturday, April 23 to purchase tickets.
