Fraser Institute ranks area High Schools

first_imgThe Fraser Institute has published its 2009 report card on Secondary Schools in BC and the Yukon.Once again it is the subject of controversy and as it does annually the BC Teachers Federation is dismissing it.President Irene Lanzinger says the exams used to rank students are comprised of basic subjects…but she argues these days students should be assessed in other ways… [asset|aid=1535|format=mp3player|formatter=asset_bonus|title=26784fc5115fccb445335b9ff956bb05-Lanzinger_4_Pub.mp3]- Advertisement -She is also suggesting the Institutes objective is not to improve the quality of education but to promote the privatization of public schools…and she notes the top four schools on the latest report card are all private.Schools are ranked from one to 313 in descending order according to their academic performance for the school year 2007/2008.There’s an overall maximum rating of ten and the Institute ranks North Peace in Fort St. John 248th, tied with two other schools, in Surrey and Victoria with a 5.1 rating.Advertisement South Peace in Dawson Creek is ranked 251st, along with five other schools, with a rating of 5.The report card also lists the schools five year average ranking.North Peace in Fort St. John is 175th with a 5.7 rating and South Peace in Dawson Creek 204th with a 5.3 rating.Below you can download the entire report from the Fraser Institute.Advertisementlast_img read more
