JacobFriesen 10.1549th 7.0914thMedal 9 schools competing by Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — The Wellington tennis team finished fourth in the Wichita Collegiate tournament, the Wellington Middle School battled tough as did the cross country team, and the sports schedule for the rest of the week are featured below …WHS Tennis:Wellington went to Wichita Collegiate and competed in an eight-team tournament.  Overall, Wellington placed fourth in a pretty good field of teams.Top finisher was No. 1 singles Peyton Adams, who finished third overall going 2-1.  “Peyton beat two very steady players – LeFevre from Goddard and Gmeiner from Newton,” said Brian Aufdengarten, Wellington head tennis coach.Adams also lost to Hauserman from Salina Central.In No. 1 doubles Ryleigh Buck and Madison Adams finished fourth on the day, but got a little revenge on Sailors/Wong from Newton.“Last week we lost to Newton after we had a tough match against McPherson, but today we played them in the opening match and looked a lot better and won,” Aufdengarten said.Buck/Adams then lost to the 3A state champions from last year Lindwall/Osland 8-3.“This match actually had about five deuce points that we lost,” he said.Wellington then lost to a state qualifier team from last season from Goddard.In No.2 doubles, Cajen Shore and Dietra Sober finished fourth overall going 2-2 on the day.  They beat Newton and Neodesha then dropped matches to Winfield and Collegiate.In No. 2 singles Madi Lewellen lost two close matches to Cole from Goddard 6-8 and in her final match against Gile from Newton in a tiebreak.Wellington plays in the 20 team Tournament of Champions this weekend at Collegiate.•••••WMS tennis: The top six players on the Wellington Middle School Girls Tennis Team participated in the Goddard Invitational yesterday.  The Lady Knights tied for second place overall in the 10-team tourney.Individual places were:No. 1 Singles:  Kylie Aufdengarten – fifthNo. 1 Doubles:  Hattie Staley and Faith Rowley – fourthNo. 2 Singles:  Tori Lewellen – fourthNo. 2 Doubles:  Keylee Bodkins and Grace Rowley – first.••••• TylerBrown 6.3021stMedal McKennaJones NEXT race: Wellington MS InvitationalHargis Creek Watershed FridayWELLINGTON HIGH SCHOOL•Football at WHS vs. Clearwater 7 p.m. Close Forgot password?
