Tamil Nadu’s people’s Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa passed away on Monday evening with the Apollo Hospital declaring her death at 11.30 pm.Thousands of supporters, who had gathered outside the Apollo Hospital in Chennai since Sunday evening when the news of Jayalalithaa’s cardiac arrest broke, couldn’t believe that their beloved Amma had passed away.Jayalalithaa’s mortal remains were shifted from the Apollo Hospital to the Poes Garden residence at around 3 am. An emotional Panneerselvam took the oath with Amma’s photo in his pocket around 1.40 am.As soon as the news broke out, the Tamil Nadu government declared a seven-day mourning during which the national flag on all the government buildings will be flown at half-mast.
