first_imgAgadir – The Youth of Agadir chose to peacefully protest the closing of the city’s theaters by carrying candles and banners reading “I love cinema” and ” No to the closure of cinemas”, at the closing ceremony of the 10th edition of the festival of cinema and migration (Festival Agadir Cinema & Migrations), hosted at Cinema Rialto, which is one of city’s oldest theaters famous for having withstood Agadir’s 1960’s earthquake. The protesting youth chose the language of “silence”, using candles to symbolize a funeral, as a civilized way of expressing discontent and mourning over the already closed movie theaters, the ones expected to be shut down, and the lack of any existing consistently working ones. The youth intelligently took advantage of the attendance of famous actors, directors and producers, as well as key officials of the sector Film Festival in Morocco, national and international media, to harness the desired exposure for the cause. Agadir’s residents are very pleased with the initiative taken by the Youth group of the city, to maintain theaters and save cinemas like Rialto and Sahara from being exploited for their strategic locations by those aiming to turn them into ritzy residential buildings.© Morocco World News.
