first_imgBy the time you read this, a multitude of men around the world will be proudly combing their full ‘Movember’ moustaches. It’s only four more days till the final bell rings out and hopefully all these newly sprouted whiskers will have raised a sizable amount of funds for this very worthwhile cause. Movember, which began in Adelaide in 1999, and is now a worldwide fundraiser, is not just about facial hair and the obvious amusement it brings; its primary purpose is to raise awareness and funds for men’s health, with a particular emphasis on depression, prostate and testicular cancer. Neos Kosmos has been keeping a watchful eye this year. For the previous two week’s our readers have been charting the progress of Emmanuel Lambou, whose moustache growth has been nothing short of inspiring. This week it’s Sydney restaurateur, David Tsirekas and it would seem he has really enjoyed the experience. “Yeah, it’s been really great. I’ve had so much support and people really love it,” Tserikas said, adding “although, my daughters don’t like it much, because they don’t like kissing me with it. But I’ve got to tell you, I’d be really welcome at Long Bay prison because I was watching this doco on San Quentin Prison and every second bloke had a moustache like the one I’ve got.” He most certainly has, and not just at San Quentin, he might also get ‘the thumbs up’ from our good friends down on Oxford Street. Tsirekas has been very successful in the fiscal as well as the facial, so far raising over $1000. “I promised that once I hit the $1000 mark I would dye my hair and moustache like Fu Man Choo,” he said. Which he did last Tuesday. “With every extra $100 raised I’ll keep it for a month, which means that if I raise $1200, I’ll keep my moustache and hair white for a whole year.” Now, that is true commitment!
