first_img Facebook Twitter: @NeosKosmos Instagram The Ethic Communities’ Council of Victoria (ECCV) has made its own landmark short film, titled Within My Walls, in an effort to raise even more awareness on the topic of elder abuse. Regardless of gender, religion or cultural identity, it is something that can happen to anyone, whereas in certain ethnic communities, such incidents remain hidden and under-reported. Within My Walls, in consultation with community advisory groups, attempts a different and more scrutinising take on suburban Melbourne’s lives of the elderly, who have been maltreated or abused even by their families. The outcome is a rather interesting community education tool, available in seven languages: Greek, Cantonese, Turkish, Mandarin, Slavic-Macedonian, Serbian and Tagalog. The viewers will have the chance to meet and greet with the filmmakers, learn more about the whole filming procedure, watch an information clip about elder abuse and hear lectures by Victorian Parliamentary Secretary for Health Georgie Crozier, ECCV’s representatives, Seniors Rights Victoria and the Victoria Law Foundation. The film will be screened on Wednesday October 15, 6.00 pm-8.00 pm, at the Village Roadshow Theatrette, State Library of Victoria, 328 Swanston Street, Victoria.
