first_imgStay on target Nintendo managed to rain on the Metroid: Samus Returns parade today. It turns out that if you want to unlock all of the game’s content, you’ll need to purchase four Metroid-themed Amiibo figures. As reported by EuroGamer, there are four Metroid figures that give you something extra in Samus Returns. Two of these Amiibo will release alongside the game, while the other two were released with Super Smash Bros. According to a Nintendo representative that spoke with the site, the locked content “is only unlocked using amiibo.”What do the Amiibo unlock? Let’s start with the Samus Returns figures. The new Samus Aran Amiibo will unlock an extra energy tank. It will also unlock exclusive Metroid II art in the art gallery. The “squidgy” Metroid amiibo reveals the location of any nearby Metroid on the map. After finishing the game, you’ll unlock a new difficulty mode called “Fusion,” where you get to don Samus’ Metroid Fusion suit. The Super Smash Bros. Amiibo have some neat unlockables too. With Samus, you can unlock an extra missile tank. Completing the game unlocks more concept art in the gallery. The Zero Suit Samus Amiibo unlocks an additional energy tank. Finishing the game will let you listen to the game’s soundtrack through a special mode.So how much is this going to end up costing gamers? The base game retails for $40. The Super Smash Bros. Amiibo cost $22 each, and we can assume the same will be true for the Samus Returns figures. Altogether, Metroid: Samus Returns will cost $129 (give or take). If you think about it, this is not much different than paying for extras in other titles. It seems Nintendo has fully embraced modern DLC practices. As a guy who already pre-ordered the game, I’m kind of bummed out about this. At the same time, I’ve seen this type of stuff before, so I’m not exactly surprised. Even without all of these extra goodies, I’m sure Metroid: Samus Returns will be a fantastic game worth playing if you’re a 3DS owner.Let us know what you like about Geek by taking our survey. ‘Super Smash Bros.
