An ESPN Analyst Accidentally Tweeted A PornHub Link Instead Of His Article

first_imgAn ESPN sign hanging that's very oldESPN national recruiting analyst Gerry Hamilton may be in a bit of hot water after making an incredibly embarrassing mistake Wednesday afternoon. Hamilton, attempting to tweet out a link with video highlights of four-star linebacker recruit Roquan Smith, instead included a link to a PornHub video. He quickly deleted the post and replaced it with the correct link, but the damage was already done – numerous users screenshotted the transgression and began circulating it.Hey @Kmarkobarstool That link is NOT Roquan Smiths highlight tape FYI pic.twitter.com/cyJBEDyxmB— ElOsoBlanco (@BSElOsoBlanco) January 21, 2015The only saving grace? The link didn’t include any kind of clue as to what the video actually contained. Still, Hamilton is bound to hear about this from those higher up.last_img read more

first_imgLaquon Treadwell, Denzel Nkemdiche working out after injuries. If the Ole Miss Rebels are going to return to form in 2015, they’re going to need all of their star players to get healthy by September. Luckily, it looks like both wide receiver Laquon Treadwell and linebacker Denzel Nkemdiche are ahead of schedule in recovering from broken ankle injuries this past season. Treadwell posted a video of the duo doing sprints this past weekend. They both look to be moving pretty well, all things considered.Ole Miss made some serious noise in the SEC West this year before injuries eventually derailed their dreams of a historic season. Perhaps they’ll be a force to reckon with again in 2015.last_img

Match Preview Harry Kane Tottenham 29122018Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino says he would have been sacked by now had he prioritised the domestic cup competitions over the Premier League and Champions League. One of the few criticisms of Pochettino’s reign has been the failure to land a major trophy, despite leading the side to a trio of top-three Premier League finishes and regular Champions League participation during his four-and-a-half years in charge. However, the former Southampton boss is unrepentant about placing the domestic cups low on his priority list, suggesting his job would be on the line if Premier League progress had been hindered due to cup distractions.“If my ambition in Tottenham is only to win the Carabao Cup or FA Cup, with all the respect for that, I think my ambition does not match the ambition of a club like Tottenham,” he said.“I don’t know how we’ve finished in the last three seasons, but if we just won the FA Cup, I don’t know if chairman Daniel Levy would have much patience with me or would say: ‘OK, you’re 10th in the Premier League, I’ll keep you and give you a new contract.’ I don’t believe that.”Indeed, the Argentine questioned the difference that winning such a competition would make for his side.“Of course we want to win a trophy but that doesn’t mean it’s going to put Tottenham on a different level,” he argued. “What puts you in a different level is if you win the Premier League and you’re capable of challenging every season for the Premier League, and if you play Champions League and you really believe and you’re a real contender one day to win the Champions League. That’s my objective in Tottenham.”For Tranmere, the game marks a significant milestone in their revival after the low of relegation to the National League four years ago. They regained their Football League status via the play-offs last May and currently find themselves just three points outside the play-off places in League Two.It will also bring back memories of the team’s memorable cup runs during the early 2000s, when they reached the FA Cup quarter-finals three times in four years as well as the League Cup final in 2000.”It’s about the whole of the football club showing the whole football world that Tranmere is still here,” said Tranmere boss Micky Mellon.”We disappeared off the Football League radar for a while and when you have three years out of the league you can lose generations of fans. You can stop being a big football club. But we have seen in the last few years with trips to Wembley, occasions like this and the promotion battles that Tranmere is still here. It still has a fan base that, when called upon, can sell out in three hours.“It has unbelievable potential and it is up to us as a football business to make sure that we keep the momentum going forward. Friday night will help that.”last_img read more

Ballack: Hazard must make decision on future

first_imgEden Hazard needs to decide if he wants to stay at Chelsea and make his intentions to the club clear, according to former Blues midfielder Michael Ballack.Hazard has made no secret of his interest in playing for Real Madrid and, with his contract having only 18 months to run, Chelsea could be forced into a sale this year if they are unable to extend his deal. However, speaking to France Football this week, the Belgium star claimed there are conditions that could see him commit his future to Stamford Bridge, even though he admitted he would still consider any Madrid approach. Article continues below Editors’ Picks ‘There is no creativity’ – Can Solskjaer get Man Utd scoring freely again? ‘Everyone legged it on to the pitch!’ – How Foden went from Man City superfan to future superstar Emery out of jail – for now – as brilliant Pepe papers over Arsenal’s cracks What is Manchester United’s ownership situation and how would Kevin Glazer’s sale of shares affect the club? Ballack, who won two FA Cups, the Premier League and the EFL Cup in a four-year spell with Chelsea, believes Hazard would be in a strong bargaining position if he tells the club of his true ambitions and has urged him to make up his mind.”Eden Hazard has to decide if he wants to stay or not,” he told Omnisport . “He’s not only an outstanding player at Chelsea but also in the Premier League. Now, he has to decide if he wants to play at an ultimate, top club. That’s what he’s already communicated from time to time.Michael Ballack“In my opinion, he is a little bit too calm, especially at Chelsea. There, he should be more demanding and expressing of his wishes. He can do that because he is in an outstanding position. If he wants to win more titles with Chelsea, something has to happen, otherwise Eden Hazard will think about looking for another opportunity.”Chelsea host Tottenham on Thursday in the EFL Cup semi-final, looking to overturn a 1-0 deficit from the first leg.The game comes after a 2-0 loss to Arsenal left them 13 points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool and only three above the Gunners and Manchester United in fifth and sixth respectively.Ballack admires head coach Maurizio Sarri’s attempts to implement a more attacking style of play, but he is concerned the squad lacks the quality to match Liverpool and champions Manchester City.”Maurizio Sarri is also from Italy, like former coach Antonio Conte. As we know, Italians focus on discipline and an organised style of play but at the beginning I had the feeling that they want to play a little bit more offensive and creative,” he said.”He is a very relaxed guy who started well, although Chelsea lost some important and easy games now. In the Premier League, that’s dangerous because you lose sight of teams like Liverpool and Manchester City who have a big and well-balanced squad. Then you suddenly suffer a 10-point deficit, which is difficult to cut.”I don’t see any players in the team who really want to attack the top of the table. For the manager, it’s difficult to add quality to the squad. As I said, the squad is good but not good enough for the top.”last_img read more

Messi sent off after furious Medel headbutt

first_imgLionel Messi’s Copa America campaign finished just over 45 minutes early on Saturday after the Argentina captain was sent off along with Chile’s Gary Medel in the third-place play-off.Messi and Argentina came flying out of the blocks in Arena Corinthians, after tasting elimination in controversial circumstances at the hands of Brazil on Tuesday. After just 12 minutes the Albiceleste went ahead, Sergio Aguero converting past Gabriel Arias in the Chile net after latching on to a brilliant quickly taken free-kick from the Barcelona wizard.  Article continues below Editors’ Picks ‘Everyone legged it on to the pitch!’ – How Foden went from Man City superfan to future superstar Emery out of jail – for now – as brilliant Pepe papers over Arsenal’s cracks What is Manchester United’s ownership situation and how would Kevin Glazer’s sale of shares affect the club? Ox-rated! Dream night in Genk for Liverpool ace after injury nightmare Injury to Alexis Sanchez and a goal for Paulo Dybala compounded the Roja’s woes, finding themselves 2-0 behind after barely 20 minutes. But both teams were soon to be reduced to 10 men as tensions in Sao Paulo boiled over. A seemingly innocuous scuffle between Messi and notoriously bad-tempered Chile hardman ‘Pitbull’ Medel quickly escalated into a full-on brawl towards the end of the first half. And while Leo certainly helped provoke his opponent by pushing and harrying him past his own goal-line, the Argentina captain was largely motionless when Medel came back throwing his shoulders and forehead repeatedly into his adversary’s person. Lionel Messi Argentina vs Chile Copa America 2019Referee Mario Diaz, however, deemed both parties equally responsible for the clash, lifting his red card twice and sparking more protests that involved almost every player on the pitch. There was momentary doubt over whether Messi’s punishment would be downgraded to a yellow upon review by VAR; the decision stood, however, and the captain let slip a wry laugh as he vacated the pitch.Messi’s expulsion will only further heighten Argentine suspicions that they have been given a raw deal by officials at this Copa America. In the Brazil clash the Albiceleste were left incensed after referee Roddy Zambrano declined to consult with VAR over two strong penalty appeals, one of which led directly to Roberto Firmino’s goal to put the hosts 2-0 up. The Argentine FA subsequently filed an official complaint over the standard of refereeing, while coach Lionel Scaloni complained his team had played against “eight men in black” as well as the Brazil team and partisan home crowd.last_img read more

Kirk Herbstreit Reveals Pick For Week 8’s Biggest Game

first_imgespn's kirk herbstreit on sportscenterESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit doesn’t always reveal his predictions for the weekend’s biggest college football games. He’s usually calling the games for ABC and wants to avoid any favoritism before the contest kicks off. That’s not the case this weekend, however. Saturday’s biggest college football game between the Michigan Wolverines and Michigan State Spartans is broadcast on FOX.That means Herbstreit is able to give out his prediction. So, who is Herbie rolling with? He likes the Wolverines.“They’re starting to peak at the right time,” Herbstreit said on this week’s podcast. “A lot of people watched their game a week ago. I had their game against Wisconsin. Jim Harbaugh, I think, finally has a quarterback. That’s the reality. People want to critique Jim. I’ll defend him and say, in fairness to him, their quarterback position has really hurt them with turnovers. Now he’s got a quarterback in Shea Patterson to compliment the physicality in the run game and you throw in (defensive coordinator) Don Brown and that defense. Man, this is a different-feeling Michigan team than what we’ve seen in years past.”Michigan enters the contest as a touchdown favorite, though Michigan State has a history of making this game interesting. The Spartans have won four of the last five games and eight of the last ten.The last game to be played in East Lansing was won by the Wolverines.Michigan and Michigan State kick off at noon ET on Saturday.last_img read more

IPL returns to Chennai, Super Kings ready to resume love affair with Chepauk

first_imgIPL returns to Chennai, Super Kings ready to resume love affair with ChepaukChennai Super Kings are gearing up to play only their second match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in nearly four years. The MS Dhoni-led side will take on Royal Challengers Bangalore in the opening match of Indian Premier League 2019 at Chepauk on Saturdayadvertisement Akshay Ramesh ChennaiMarch 23, 2019UPDATED: March 23, 2019 14:55 IST Cricket fans in Chennai are gearing up to Chennai Super Kings’ home game against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Saturday (Twitter Photo)The whistles are set to be back as a carnival-like atmosphere is expected in Chennai on Saturday. Indian Premier League (IPL) returns to the cricket-loving coastal city and Chennai Super Kings fans showed signs of what is to come when they filled the stands at MA Chidambaram Stadium during a training session of the home team on Sunday, leaving the cricket fraternity in awe.The buildup to the much-anticipated return of CSK to their fortress has been grand, to say the least. Thousands of fans forwent a night’s sleep and queued up in numbers to get their tickets for the IPL 2019 opener — a big-ticket clash between CSK and Royal Challengers Bangalore. It’s hard to believe that the MA Chidambaram Stadium, also known as Chepauk, hosted only one IPL match in the last four years. It’s even harder to describe what the fans had to go through when CSK were suspended over corruption for two years between 2016 and 2017.The iconic narrow lanes in Chepauk, including the Victoria Hostel Road, hadn’t hosted a sea of yellow during match days and ticket sales over the last three years. The roadside vendors, selling jerseys, and the ones who are ever-ready to paint your faces yellow outside the MA Chidambaram Stadium were deprived of seasonal income. As I’m suffering from #Yellove! #WhistlePodu #CSKvRCB ???? pic.twitter.com/N3Q2lHi3jPChennai Super Kings (@ChennaiIPL) March 23, 2019The #Yellove on the faces of all the kids out there defines #Thala and the #AnbuDen! #WhistlePodu ???? pic.twitter.com/u1ZLwk9lSRadvertisementChennai Super Kings (@ChennaiIPL) March 22, 2019Nonetheless, CSK’s loyal fans made sure the buzz around the franchise was kept alive even during their absence. In fact, CSK’s official fan club — Chennai Super Kings Fan Club — was formed in 2016. The fan club, also known as Whistle Podu Army on social media, grew in numbers before CSK returned in 2018.CSK’s homecoming in IPL 2018 though ended in heartbreak as Dhoni’s men were forced to shift their home games out of Chennai due to protests over long-standing Cauvery water issue. Only one match — CSK’s five-wicket win over Kolkata Knight Riders — was played in Chennai before Dhoni’s men found home in Pune. There was a similar buzz around CSK’s return to Chennai last year. Fans had turned up in huge numbers to watch a practice session last year as well. In fact, Dhoni and his men had taken an open bus journey from the team hotel to the stadium and thousands lined up along the streets to greet their superstars. Not just all roads, but even the tracks lead to #Chepauk to fill the stadium #YelloveAgain. #WhistlePodu @ChennaiIPL #CSKvRCB #DhoniVsKohli pic.twitter.com/jWyEaCMVYRWhistle Podu Army ® – CSK Fan Club (@CSKFansOfficial) March 23, 2019After waiting two years for the team’s return, CSK fans were left distraught but that didn’t stop them from travelling to Pune in specially-arranged trains to support their team at its new home. One of the most-recognised cricket fans in the country, Super Fan Saravanan Hari was more relieved than happy when he got to know CSK will be playing their full-quota of home matches in Chennai in IPL 2019.Hari, who couldn’t wait to paint himself yellow and cheer for MS Dhoni in Chepauk on Saturday, said CSK fans are gearing up for a “family reunion”.”For me, it’s like a reunion of family members after almost a year. For three years, we haven’t been able to witness this at home. Very happy that matches are being played at home. We just want to create a carnival-like atmosphere,” Hari told indiatoday.in.It’s not surprising that most of the CSK players also felt the disappointment of not playing at home over the last three years. They managed to adapt to Pune and find quick success at their new base last year. But nothing comes close to playing at home in front of their fans and the whistles. It’s easy for away teams to get overawed by the love affair between CSK and their fans. Tottenham players are superheroes now: Manager Mauricio Pochettino

first_img Next Tottenham players are superheroes now: Manager Mauricio PochettinoTottenham, once mocked by rival fans for being soft-centred, showed immense spirit and forced their way back into their first European Cup semi-final for 57 years.advertisement Reuters AmsterdamMay 9, 2019UPDATED: May 9, 2019 11:01 IST Pochettino said on the eve of the Ajax second leg that it would be a miracle if Tottenham won the Champions League (Reuters Photo)HIGHLIGHTSTottenham advanced to the Champions League final on away goal difference vs AjaxTottenham beat Ajax 3-2 in the semi-final second leg played in AmsterdamLucas Moura wrote himself into Tottenham folklore with a 35-minute hat-trickTottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino was overcome by emotion after the extraordinary Champions League semi-final victory over Ajax Amsterdam on Wednesday and who could blame him?Few managers have had to deal with what Pochettino has this season – from being the only European club to make no signings in consecutive transfer windows to playing home games at Wembley because of delays in the completion of the club’s new stadium. On top of that, many of Tottenham’s squad were involved deep into the World Cup finals with England, Belgium and France and it showed in recent weeks when the losses started piling up, with players running on fumes.Tottenham arrived in Amsterdam on the back of three successive defeats and with top striker Harry Kane watching from the stands as he recovers from an ankle injury sustained in the first leg of Tottenham’s quarter-final win over Manchester City.At halftime on Wednesday they looked down and out with Ajax, already 1-0 up after the first leg, leading 2-0 thanks to goals by Matthijs de Ligt and Hakim Ziyech. But Tottenham, once mocked by rival fans for being soft-centred, showed immense spirit and forced their way back into their first European Cup semi-final for 57 years.Lucas Moura, who would not even have been playing had Kane been fit, wrote himself into Tottenham folklore with a 35-minute hat-trick to send the away fans into delirium and Pochettino into floods of tears.Tottenham’s Champions League campaign had looked all but over after they picked up one point from their first three group games.advertisementThey needed late winners in consecutive games against PSV Eindhoven and Inter Milan and a draw in Barcelona, earned with Moura’s goal, to get into the knockout phase. Now, after knocking out Borussia Dortmund, Manchester City and Ajax, they can look forward to taking on Liverpool on June 1 in their first final in European club football’s top competition.”CLOSE TO A MIRACLE”Pochettino said on the eve of the Ajax second leg that it would be a miracle if Tottenham won the Champions League and that he might decide to do something else if they pulled it off.Tottenham fans will hope he was only joking but if Spurs do upset the odds again in Madrid and Pochettino does depart, he would do so ranked up alongside Bill Nicolson on the club’s list of all-time managerial greats.”I think it’s one of the most important nights in my life,” Pochettino, who joined Tottenham in 2014 and is on the verge of sealing a fourth successive top-four finish, told reporters.”I think (the players) are super heroes now. To get the club to the final of the Champions League I think is very close to a miracle. No one believed in us from the start of the season.”With fewer resources than the rest of England’s top six, not to mention the likes of European heavyweights like Barcelona and Real Madrid, Pochettino has had to extract every last drop of value from his squad.Moura, the last signing Tottenham made in January last year, has often been a bit-part player but when called upon has been a vital option for Pochettino.Likewise experienced Spanish striker Fernando Llorente, whose introduction at halftime on Wednesday helped muscle Tottenham back into contention.Moussa Sissoko, whose energy drove Tottenham forward in the second half, is another player who has thrived under Pochettino after initially being written off.Whatever happens in Madrid, Tottenham are punching well above their weight in terms of investment and it is something of which Pochettino is rightly proud.”Without Harry Kane many people were talking about Sonny (Son Heung-min) but today it was Lucas Moura who scored three goals and you know if you don’t respect all the players, you cannot only have 11 players,” Pochettino said.”You can have some players who can win some games but to be in the Champions League final you need 24 or 25 and the relationship must always be honest with everyone.”In moments when you need them, they need to give their best.”For sports news, updates, live scores and cricket fixtures, log on to indiatoday.in/sports. Feel Good Friday – Bombas Socks

first_img Why Are All These Celebrities Shotgunning Beers? Athletic socks haven’t been in the style vernacular since the days of the Harlem Globetrotters. Yeah, it’s been a while. Nobody has reworked a damn ankle or knee sock for eons yet athletic shoes are redeveloped constantly. On a more sobering note, socks are the most requested item at homeless shelters. This statistic had two guys, Randy and Dave, thinking. They met back at Urban Daddy and since leaving the site, decided to focus their time and energy on a socially conscious sock line. Bombas was born. The word Bombas is derived from the Latin word for bumblebee. Bees work together to make the hive a better place. That’s what this company is all about (and you will be reminded inside every pair of socks that reads, ‘Bee Better’).So what makes these socks so great?Peruvian Pima cotton:  It is incredibly breathable and excellent at wicking moisture. It is also known for holding color so your socks will continue to pop, wash after wash.Stay Up Technology: The team  tested loads of tension level and found one that is just right but not too tight.Y-Stitched Heel: Creating a natural cup around your heel.Blister tab: Extra added cushion to protect the ankle from rubbing and chaffing.Perforated Footbed: Reinforced but not thick for extra support and longer lasting socks.Invisitoe: No more irritating toe seams.Honeycomb support system: (more bee references!) A honeycomb weave is used to distribute pressure evenly throughout your arch. Now for the feel good part – For every pair of socks purchased a pair will be donated to Hannah’s Socks, a charity that collects and donates socks to those in need.Fundraising for this project is nearly complete so if you place an order now, they will arrive in November. However, there are a few companies that transcend the established model and build amazing gear across the board. Our experience testing the Salomon MTN Collection earlier this year while testing some the skis, boots, and apparel at Alta Ski Resort in Utah has us convinced that Salomon has once again pushed the boundaries of what is possible in the mountains.Related: Eddie Bauer Custom Down | Voormi Core ConstructionMTN Lab BootThe all new Lab Boot is the first touring boot we’ve worn that nails both uphill climbing and downhill charging. Business secrets of a craft beer insider

first_img 9 Best Fall Beers to Drink This Year, According to the Brewing Experts The Best Coffee-Infused Beers to Flip All the Switches There are a handful of rock stars in the world of craft beer. First you have the OGs like Fritz Maytag of Anchor Brewing, Jim Koch of Boston Beer Co. and Ken Grossman of Sierra Nevada. They made themselves known simply by being first and then having the gumption to stick around through the lean times. The huge and ever expanding landscape of craft beer owes these gentlemen a huge debt. Then there are the second-wave guys. These are the brewers and owners who used their platforms to become more than the men behind the kettle: true beer world celebrities, outlandishly rethinking the landscape of American beer in the process. This class is dominated by none other than Sam Calagione, founder of Dogfish Head Brewery. In addition to being the original brewer, Calagione has also distinguished himself as company president, a reality television show personality and James Beard Award nominee.Related Post: Dogfish Head Teams Up with WoolrichIn 2005, he added “author” to his resume with the book Brewing Up a Business. It’s the rare behind-the-scenes business tome that is also highly entertaining. Despite all his success, Calagione doesn’t take himself too seriously. He’s more than happy to share the low points along with the highs, and make you laugh and learn from his folly along the way.As Dogfish Head has continued to grow and thrive in the last decade, it was time for Calagione to follow up with his second book, Off-Centered Leadership. This play on Dogfish Head’s slogan (“Off-centered ales for off-centered people”) rings true as the author expands upon the secrets he’s learned as company president. In this new book, he discusses the craft brewing industry’s fight against the big beer juggernauts and describes his unique, zen-like approach to establishing a new company culture at Dogfish Head. We’re inspired to innovate in order to render positive karma to our beer, our company, our customers and the entire craft community.–Excerpt from Off-Centered LeadershipParticularly enriching are the excerpts where Calagione attempts to define Dogfish Head in the aftermath of its success. How do you keep a company fresh and nimble when it has grown beyond the founder’s original visions? How do you keep a competitive edge and also be supportive of the newcomers to your industry? How does beer specifically influence topics of global and personal importance? While Sam doesn’t answer all of the questions that the book posits, he addresses them straight-on with the candor and wit that we’ve come to expect. And while the book provides lots of juicy behind-the-scenes information for craft beer aficionados and Dogfish Head faithful, there’s plenty left over for those looking for real-world leadership tips that will translate to any industry. Find the Soul of the South in Savannah, Georgia

first_img 5 of the Best Aged Tequilas to Drink When the Weather Cools Down 11 Under-the-Radar Cities in Canada Worth Exploring Smart Practices for Drinking With the Environment in Mind The Best American Liqueur Editors’ Recommendations If You Haven’t Visited the Kentucky Bourbon Trail, What Are You Waiting For? Ray Charles didn’t croon about Georgia for naught. While we are big fans of the Peach State and the capitol Atlanta, Savannah is our spot when it comes to kicking back and slowing down. Why? Well there are the intimate little parks, laid out by the founder of Georgia, James Oglethorpe to lounge in. There is the burgeoning food and bar scene that could soon rival it’s sister city Charleston. SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design) students add a whole bunch of pizzazz to this once sleepy town with their art shows, fashion shows, and general street style. Finally, located two hours north of Florida, the weather can be a huge lure for snowbirds who need a little sunshine and color when blizzards are whipping through the North. Now that summer is here, it is the perfect time to head down to The Hostess City of the South. Here are some of our favorite places to hang our hat.StayThe BriceThis former Holiday Inn has been revamped into one of our favorite hotels we have passed out in. The vibe is fun, pets are allowed, there is free wine every evening at 5 pm, and the restaurant is top drawer. All the staff is very accommodating and the outdoor lounge is always good for people (and pup) watching.DoWalkWhatever you do, keep away from the Riverwalk. It is the ‘mall’ of Savannah with every tourist and loud child vying for the taffy shop. The squares are what this city is known for so just walk around, through, up and down ‘em. For the more adventurous take the short drive out to Bonaventure Cemetery. You can’t get more Southern Gothic than this place.Broughton Street is the main drag, so take a stroll down this street and you are sure to find something you fancy. Some of our top picks are below.Prospector Co.It’s rare to find a men’s grooming shop in such a small town but Prospector Co. started in 2010 and their store on Broughton Street is a great spot for gents to hide out and shop while your gal is burning a hole in her credit card at all the lady shops.Savannah BeeCan’t get more local than this! Founder and beekeeper Ted Dennard has a passion for bees and his little idea back in 1999 has exploded into a global honey brand. The store has a wide range of artisanal honeys as well as honey grooming, beauty and hair products. Or favorite is the honey for the grill. No explanation needed.Paris MarketOK – while this verges on a “lady shop,” they have books you may enjoy and some good grooming products. But if you can cope with the flowers in the front (man up!) there are some great finds in this eccentric shopping destination. Added bonus: the coffee shop with outdoor seating.Byrds CookiesBaking cookies since 1924, they became famous for packing their delicious treats in tins for tourists to travel with. The cookies are still the bomb and the tins are the perfect gift for mama (with cookies!).Sherman’s Civil War HeadquartersLove him or hate him, it’s always interesting to see where historic figures did their thing. Upon the invitation of the owner himself, General William Tecumseh Sherman used the Green-Meldrim house as headquarters when the Federal army occupied Savannah during the Civil War. Take a tour and learn more about the War while laying eyes on some seriously good architecture.SCAD Museum of ArtLocated in a former railroad depot from 1853, this is one of the South’s premier contemporary art museums with exhibitions of globally recognized artists as well as SCAD’s talented students.Carlos Cruz Diez at SCAD Museum of Art/FacebookEat/DrinkLunchGryphonBuilt in 1925, this former apothecary has all of its original shelves and stained glass and has been handsomely restored as one of the most Instagramable places to dine.Their menu ranges from chicken salad to pork tenderloin and peanut butter and honey sandwiches (holler!) and since you are in the South you have to order iced tea.Cocktail HourThe Marshall HouseOriginally built in 1851, it served as a hospital for soldiers towards the end of the Civil War and during the yellow fever epidemics. Marshall House was expertly restored in 1999. We love this old hotel for a pre-dinner cocktail. The bar is a little eccentric and you may happen upon some equally odd-ball locals having their usual while reading some old tattered novel, probably written by a mad cap family member of yore.DinnerThe GreyThe Sizzling Smoky Pig/FacebookReserve this place for your big night out. This is one the most exciting spots we have dined in anywhere in America. The location is a 1938 Greyhound bus terminal that has been restored to all of its glorious art deco chrome and wood glory. The bartender makes a mean martini and the food is off the chart. Oysters, Seafood Boudin, and Roasted Yardbird are just a few of the items we love (although menu changes seasonally).Cotton & RyeWhile The Grey is the glitzy night out, Cotton and Rye is still sophisticated but a tad more relaxed. Occupying a 1953 bank building, the owners have added a massive outdoor area so you can eat under the stars. While we aren’t mad at their Piggy Pappardelle and Cheeseburger, their veggies are fresh enough to order as an entrée. Succotash anyone?BrunchCollins QuarterA little slice of Australia right off Wright Square, this has become one of the best brunch spots in town. Try their nearly world famous smashed Avocado on local Beaufort artisan toast or their hangover helper, Biscuits and Gravy.last_img read more

Four Things Travelers Should Never Pack for a Trip to Cuba

first_img Editors’ Recommendations How to Drink Absinthe and Live to Tell the Tale How to Make a Cuban Sandwich, According to Chefs While Obama seemingly threw open the doors for American travelers to Cuba, the country is still among the most restrictive in the Western hemisphere for what travelers can and cannot bring across its borders. Here are four items that you should never pack for a trip to Cuba under any circumstances.GPS Devices and Mobile/Satellite PhonesFor Americans, some mobile phones and cellular-dependent tablets are a no-go in Cuba. This isn’t because they aren’t allowed, but rather that they simply won’t work inside the country. Sprint and Verizon customers will find limited roaming service. However, the island’s cellular infrastructure means that you won’t have access to phone calls or data via your mobile devices on any other carrier. Rental phones and/or SIM cards (if you have an unlocked, GSM-capable device) can be found at the airport and some hotels. You might think, “Why not pack a satellite phone?” Nice try, but the Cuban government will confiscate it, along with any GPS-enabled devices.Drones of Any KindDrones seem innocuous enough, plus they’re everywhere these days. So, why wouldn’t you take yours on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Cuba? Unfortunately, it will be confiscated at the border as well. This applies to drones of any size and capability — with or without fixed a camera. This harrowing tale of an American who managed to sneak his drone into the country highlights just how seriously the Cuban military takes drone technology. He was held for 13 days in solitary confinement “on suspicion of espionage and terrorist activity.” Bottom line: don’t take the chance.Pornography and Other “Adult” MaterialsWe certainly won’t judge you for whatever smut you need to travel with. But, even though the Cuban people have grown far more liberal in the last decade or so, their government is still quite sensitive about “adult materials.” How that term is defined is open to the interpretation and vague whims of Cuban officials. Just know that, if you feel like any printed or digital adult-oriented material in your possession might be questionable, err on the side of leaving it at home. At the border, officials seem to be pretty lax about not thoroughly screening every foreign traveler. But, it’s still a touchy subject and one not worth dealing with in a foreign country.Overly Political or Divisive LiteratureYou’re allowed to talk trash about your family and friends. But, assuming you’re the loyal type, you’re going to be ready to fight if a stranger tries to do the same. Cubans are like that about their own country. They know it’s not perfect, but that’s for them to judge and rally against, not you. Technically, it’s not illegal to bring political, divisive, or otherwise critical literature into Cuba. But it’s strongly frowned upon and may be confiscated at the border. Again, you can probably get away with it, but why tempt fate? Travel Back In Time with the Coolest Drive-In Movie Theaters in the U.S.

first_img If You Haven’t Visited the Kentucky Bourbon Trail, What Are You Waiting For? Nothing lets you relive the old days quite like reclining back in your own car or hanging off a tailgate with a box of popcorn and a giant soda in hand while watching a summer classic at a drive-in movie theater. The nation’s first drive-in movie theater opened in Camden, New Jersey, on June 6, 1933. By the 1950s, the number of outdoor big screens eclipsed 4,000. As technology in the digital evolution and home entertainment climbed in popularity, the decline of the classic American drive-in began.Because many Hollywood films started using digital projection as their main medium, it limited the movies drive-in theatres could play, as it was an expensive transition for a screen of such size. However, this great American pastime is still present in some parts of the country, kept alive by theaters that could afford the conversion to digital projection and by offering unique concessions. Besides, catering to nostalgia will always bring business. Here are some of the best drive-in movie theaters in the U.S. you can still visit, so you and your Grandpa can share dating stories.Lakeport Auto MoviesLakeport, CaliforniaIf you ever find yourself in the Lake County area of Northern California, Lakeport’s Drive-In movie theater should certainly be one of your visiting destinations. Be treated to buttery popcorn, family-friendly feature films, and beautiful sunsets. You could also purchase a $5 food and beverage permit to allow you to bring in your own goodies to the big screen.Ford Wyoming Drive-InDearborn, MichiganThe Ford Wyoming Drive-In takes the cake for the largest theater in the world and certainly one of the best drive-in movie theaters in the U.S. Hosting five screens and up to 3,000 cars on any given night, the showings are always double features, and the grounds are open all weekend nights as long as weather permits. They also have great concession offerings, such as a chicken or Philly steak, a steaming shrimp dinner, and good ole pretzel bites.Midway Drive-In TheatreMinetto, New YorkThe Midway Drive-In Theatre in Minetto, N.Y. opened for business in 1948, making it the oldest operating drive-in in New York State, and Central New York’s last standing theater. The single screen theater is known for its triple features nearly every weekend and was the first of its kind to screen open-captioned movies for the deaf community. It closed down shortly for a remodel but reopened in April 2017, showing movies rain or shine, with an open field for kids to run around and play, and an overall welcoming atmosphere. So much in fact, Midway sells out of space quite often.Bengies Drive-In TheatreMiddle River, MarylandBoasting the largest movie screen in the country – measuring 52′ x 120′, with a 460′ throw – the Bengies drive-in is an easy pick when weighing out the best drive-in movie theaters in the U.S. Not only does it offer a massive screen, Bengies offers a third length film for the late night crowd at a reduced price on Fridays and Saturdays – for only $10.They also offer a massive concession selection to match, providing everything from pulled pork and a meatball submarine sandwich to jalapeno poppers and caramel candy apples.99W Drive-InNewberg, OregonDuring the late 1950’s, Oregon was home to as many as 70 drive-in theaters. Now, there are only three. Of those three, the Francis family-owned, solo-screen 99W Drive-in is by far your best bet. The closest drive-in to the city of Portland, 99W screens double features seasonally between late April and October, and on the weekends.66 Drive-InCarthage, MissouriLocated along Historic Route 66 in Carthage, Missouri., the 66 Drive-In is one of the few remaining historically intact drive-ins operating on the famous route. The theater plays double features each Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and they have a bevy of concession options, from savory BBQ sandwiches, mouthwatering chili dogs, and delectable nachos.Admiral Twin Drive-InTulsa, OklahomaAnother pit stop along Historic Route 66, also known as The Daily Double in The Outsiders, the screens at Admiral Twin actually burned down in 2010, but the theatre has persisted. The drive-in is still open and they advise you to arrive early since they still experience long lines which start to form closer to showtime. You might want to make this one a date night, as they only show movies on the weekends. Can You Do a Clambake in a Paint Can? You’re Clam Right.

first_img Easy 3-Ingredient Cocktails You Can Master For anyone who grew up in New England (and, of all places, Ohio), the clambake is a summer standard. It is a time to gather the friends and family, crack open a bunch of cold beers, and go to town on the bounty of bivalve delights found just offshore.Clambakes originally involved grabbing the clams from their sandy homes, digging a pit, lining said pit with seaweed, adding rocks that have been heated in a fire, adding the clams, then covering with more seaweed and sad. It was an easy way to for people to prepare and consume what was at-hand without the use of cooking implements (because, in the case of the Native American tribes that first practiced clambakes, they didn’t have pots).Over time, the clambake has evolved. More seafood was thrown in, as were vegetables and other ingredients — both to add numerous flavors and to extend the clambake if there weren’t enough clams to go around. Oh, and the addition of beer or other potent potables really helped things along (though we feel confident in saying that the first people who prepared clambakes in the Northeast would’ve been down to crack open a cold one if beer had been available then).Much as the recipes have changed, so too have the preparation methods. Instead of using an open flame and seaweed, why not use a paint can and a grill? That is exactly what chef David Burke has done with this super easy, super tasty clambake recipe.Burke — of Tavern62 by David Burke in New York City and BLT Prime by David Burke in Washington D.C. — takes a clean paint can (needless to say, don’t just go using whatever paint can you come across in the garage, please) and loads it up with a variety of marine goods and vegetables. From there, all you need is a grill and boom, you’ve got yourself a clambake.Check out the recipe below and make sure you have plenty of beer on hand.Grilled Paint Can ClambakeDavid BurkeServes 4Ingredients:1 to 1.25-lb lobster3 to 4 medium-sized shrimp6 mussels6 clams8 slices chorizo or spicy Italian sausage2 to 3 red potatoes, diced8 cloves garlic, sliced1 cup chopped tomatoes1 ear of corn.5 cup chopped basil1 lemon, cut into wedges5 cup white wine5 to 6 tbsp butter2 tbsp red pepper flakes1 tbsp Old Bay seasoningSalt and pepperMethod:In a large, empty paint can, place the lobster, followed by the rest of the ingredients, saving the shrimp to go in last for the top.Cover with foil and place on the grill. Custos Perrin Ready to Make an Impact

first_imgNew Custos Rotulorum for the parish of Westmoreland, Canon Hartley Perrin, has ascended to the high office with great vision and prospects for the parish and its citizens. The Anglican Dean and Past President of the Westmoreland Lay Magistrates Association has an outstanding record of service in the parish, spanning more than 30 years, but feels that with his new position, he can make an even more significant impact. As the Governor-General’s representative in Westmoreland, Canon Perrin has the awesome task of assisting in the maintenance of good order and discipline in the parish, and upholding the rule of law. He is also keeper of the roll of Justices of the Peace (JPs), with responsibility for leading the large contingent of lay magistrates, and ensuring that they are “steadfastly focused” on their duties. The new Custos said that among his immediate tasks is to ensure that JPs and citizens are continuously trained in the understanding, acceptance and practice of the concept of dispute resolution. He noted that it is “crucially important” to get more persons to accept the fact that more could be gained by sitting down to talk out a problem rather than by “fighting it out”.Canon Perrin said he also intends to spearhead action that will bring unity and collaboration among the various civic organisations and groups; help showcase the parish’s rich heritage and history in tourism and agriculture; and ensure that citizens have ready access to their JPs.He cautioned JPs against engaging in acts of corruption, pledging to stamp out the scourge where this exists, and build an enhance professionalism and integrity, as well as standards of excellence and honour. He warned the JPs that they will be penalized if caught accepting money for services rendered. “I wish to state unequivocally that this Custos condemns any such practice and will initiate appropriate action to stamp out any such practice wherever they may exist in this parish. I therefore demand your full cooperation in this matter. A word to the wise is sufficient,” he stated.Affectionately called ‘Father Perrin,’ the new Custos is regarded as the consummate community worker/servant, having impacted hundreds of lives in his home community of Petersfield and adjoining areas for over 30 years. He was among seven residents recently hailed as local heroes for outstanding contributions to the development of the parish.Canon Perrin, who was raised by a single mother, attended a private preparatory school where he gained a scholarship to Manning’s High School. At Mannings, he successfully passed his external examinations, which qualified him to work as a pre-trained teacher at Petersfield Primary and Infant School. After four years at Petersfield, he decided to enter the priesthood and attended the United Theological College of the West Indies (UTCWI), where he underwent four years of intense preparations for his calling.“That calling on my life is still very current, and I would not want to change to be anything else than what I am right now; a priest,” he said. After graduating from the UTCWI in 1978, he was assigned to St. Mary’s Church in Kingston, before being posted to his parish, where he thought he would serve for no more than a “year or two”.Thirty-four years and counting, Canon Perrin is still serving the people of his home parish, gaining their respect and support. “I have been enjoying the journey, and truly making inroads in transforming lives in my area of service,” he pointed out.Since 1979, he has been Rector of the Petersfield/Darliston Cure, which consists of five churches. He has been called on to preach in the United States, Canada, Africa and the Caribbean. The new Custos also chairs several school boards in Westmoreland, is president of the Lion’s Club of Savanna-la-Mar, station pastor for the Whithorn Police Station, vice-chairman of the Westmoreland Parish Health Committee, member of the Governor- General’s Committee for Excellence and chairman of the board of Clifton Boys’ Home.He has received various awards for his service, including the the Prime Minister’s Medal of Appreciation for service to Jamaica in June 2003.Looking back at what he has been able to accomplish, Canon Perrin feels satisfied that he has impacted countless lives, and has accomplished his mandate to serve his parishoners.“I feel proud of my service to the people, especially when I see those whose lives I have been able to touch, both young and older ones, holding their own in society and making great contributions to the enhancement and empowerment of those around them, for me it is mission accomplished,” he told JIS News.Looking ahead, he said that he has accepted the high office of Custos with sincere humility and great expectations. He is confident that God had plans for other avenues and opportunities where he could render service so that he can continue to make a positive contribution.last_img read more
